County Cork is located in the Southwest of Ireland. Cork, the largest County in the Republic of Ireland, is known for its:
long coastline with many fishing villages
many islands a short boat ride off the coast
rugged hills and mountains for walking and amazing views
beautiful gardens for visits and fresh produce
many variety of flora and fauna, some unique to County Cork
approximately 750 miles of main river channels, the greatest number in Ireland
West Cork has had an appeal for writers, artists and craftspeople for many years. There is a thriving arts community throughout the area with many galleries, workshops and crafts shops. You will also find a number of opportunities to taken in music of all kinds from Irish traditional music, folk, rock and even chamber music.
Travel to County Cork Ireland
Cork Airport is approximately 57 miles away with many flights from the UK and Europe. Many visitors from North America
arrive at the international airports in Dublin (225 miles) or Shannon (125 miles) and then drive to Cork.
Whilst the Cork Swansea Ferry that normally arrives at Ringaskiddy/Cork Ferryport (60 miles) is not running in 2007, there are other ferry services into Rosslare (180 miles) and Dublin (225 miles).
There is a train service from Cork City Centre, 55 miles away, to other major cities in Ireland.
