South Reen
South Reen Farm was mentioned in a letter sent from N.M. Cummins J.P. to The Duke of Wellington in
1846 the time of the Potato famine. Sculptor Susan O'Toole's tree sentinels, dedicated to those who died
in the famine, looks out over the sea; the piece comprises eighteen pine trees, three feet apart,
standing 27ft tall. It rises out of the south- west, high on the South Reen peninsular, overlooking
small-uninhabited Islands. Below the ocean gushes towards the rocks, where its waves climb
dramatically. There is awe and beauty and a feeling that we are all inseparable from those people who
lived there in earlier time, which knew not to disturb the balance of nature.
South Reen farm has an appeal to anyone who would like to re-kindle
good health in themselves, through well deserved rest and relaxation,
qigong and a range of healing arts. Many who come here down tools to
re-charge, faced with exhaustion of multi challenges in their life
styles, that had narrowed them down without realizing it. During
your free time here this is your space, and how good it feels to feel
your energy return. This land here is natural and organically
tended. It offers the walker, the whale watcher and the sea kayaker
a frame of mind for renewal; warm sun between the shoulder blades,
even soft silvery rain that comes down soothes the eyes and face.
This beautiful place opens its heart to the life around and
everything in it as though it were a dance!
Qigong courses are held at certain weekends during the year, sessions
with experienced health practitioners are available, outside
activities; whale watching, sea kayaking, fishing, horse riding are
all available close to the farm. Please contact us for further details.
